ACKNOWLEDGING MY TEACHERS:

–Clay —  30 years of learning pottery before the internet!   I learned from Warren McKenzie, Walter Ostrom, and other teachers in workshops at the Arvada Center for the Arts and Mile High Ceramics in Denver.  Studio Potter magazine was a fantastic source of technical information and exposure to work in the field.  I met other potters in the region by participating in the Empty Bowls fundraiser started by Linda Pankratz and Anne Shimek.

–Quilting  — Katie Pasquini-Masopust’s Alegre Quilt Retreats provided working vacations for me, with week-long classes with Katie, Joan Colvin, Fran Skiles, and Linda Colsh.   Katie gave the students a place in the show that ran concurrently with classes at the Santa Fe retreats in the early 2000’s.   I have been a juried artist member of SAQA for nearly 15 years, which takes care of my continuing education!

–Woodturning — I was fortunate to join Dennis Liggett on his teaching trips since about 2007, assisting him in some of the classes.  I started turning with guidance from Trent Bosch in 2004, was lucky to get instruction from Stuart Mortimer and Nick Agar.  The AAW’s Women in Turning group provides great opportunities to encourage other women turners.  I received a grant from AAW to update the Wikipedia entry on woodturning in 2017.  This was a great opportunity to research the history of the craft.
